Troubleshooting |
|
- Cutting-in visible – the colour has not covered the existing colour and additional coats may be required.
- Filled spots look shiny – generally this occurs on coloured rendered walls that have not been previously painted or sealed. The filler isn’t absorbing the paint but the wall is. We apply one coat of sealer/undercoat to all coloured rendered walls prior to painting to prevent this.
- Filler shrinks – usually occurs if blemish is big or deep or incorrect filler used. Also occurs where filler used on bare surfaces – better to undercoat a surface prior to filling. Re-fill blemish/gap with more filler.
- Mould comes back soon after painting – clean affected area with diluted bleach to ensure mould spores are killed. You may not need to repaint. Mould inhibitor can be used in paint (one mould killed) to prevent future outbreaks. We use Taubman’s Easy Coat or Pure Performance as they contains Microbaine which prohibits bacteria growth for the life of the paint.
- Paint not adhering – this could be related to a no. of issues including kalsomine in older homes (particularly ceilings), dampness, grease or some other contaminant on surface. Remove peeling paint and seal/undercoat surface. You will need to seek advice at the time as this can be complex. Some issues such as dampness cannot be resolved with painting.
- Paint not applied evenly – particularly doors painted in enamel paint. Sand surface, apply paint with a roller and lay off paint with brush using parallel vertical strokes.
- Paint runs or drips evident – too much paint applied or too much pressure on roller. Sand back where required and repaint entire surface.
- Stains come back through new paintwork – apply stain seal to marks and touch-up surface (if possible) or repaint entire surface. In particular crayons, texters, pens, mould and soot.
